My mission in creating this site is to share information about the changes in women’s bodies as they go through life’s hormonal transitions.
Why do I care and what do I know about this? My name is Melissa McCarty and I am a 40-something-year-old woman, mother of two growing boys, wife, daughter, sister, friend and naturopathic physician.
I struggled for over a year to get pregnant with my first son. And then, after the birth of my second child, I went through a combination of post-partum issues and the beginning of perimenopause. Needless to say, it was a challenging time for me, as well as my family.
I’ve worked with many women who have experienced similar situations. They felt confused about the changes their bodies were going through. They were desperate to understand their bodies and be able to feel better. I want to share my own experiences and offer tips and suggestions on how to make these hormonal transitions smooth.
In practice since 2006, I graduated from Bastyr University and then completed a competitive two-year family practice residency. I have had the pleasure of working with women seeking to optimize their health and manage their hormones using natural therapies. I have been practicing with my amazing colleagues at Seattle Integrative Medicine in north Seattle, Washington since 2010.
I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went to college at Auburn University in Alabama and then moved out west to study naturopathic medicine. I met my husband in Seattle and we are raising two young, energetic, incredibly healthy and delightful boys.
I am writing to share not only my own journey with fertility struggles and perimenopause but also what I have heard repeatedly from the many women I’ve worked with over the years. I hope to offer the best information so this process doesn’t feel like such a secret. Also, I’ll provide ideas on how to make life a bit smoother. So, come along for the ride!
